Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about notarised translation

What is notarised translation?

Notarised translation is certified translation verified by UK notary public, required for international legal use.

When do I need notarised translation?

Needed for foreign court submissions, international business registration, and countries requiring notarial verification.

How much does notarised translation cost?

Contact us for a quote - pricing depends on document type, language, and urgency.

Do I need a certified or a notarised translation?

For nearly all UK purposes, a certified translation (signed accuracy statement, from £35/document) is sufficient: UKVI and Home Office applications, university admissions (UCAS), DVLA licence exchange, banks and employers. Notarised translation (a notary public verifies the translator's identity and witnesses their signature, typically £180+ including the notary fee) is for international use: foreign court submissions, some embassy requirements, and countries that demand notarial authentication. If a UK authority asked for your document, certified is almost always enough.

Does UKVI require notarised translations?

No. UKVI and the Home Office do NOT require notarisation - a certified translation with a signed statement of accuracy meets their published requirements. Paying for notarisation for a UK visa application is usually unnecessary cost. We will advise honestly if certified is enough for your case.

Do I need an apostille as well as notarisation?

Only for documents going to certain countries. An apostille is an FCDO authentication applied on top of the notary's signature, recognised by Hague Convention countries. See our apostille translation service or check your destination country with our legalisation checker.
