Taken from the Embassy of the State of Qatar in London, Qatar's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the British Embassy in Doha's guidance on GOV.UK and the Hague Conference, all opened on 11 October 2026. Check with the embassy before you post anything, as its rules can change.

Why one apostille is not enough
Qatar does not appear in the Hague Conference status table for the Apostille Convention (last updated 30 June 2026). The British Embassy in Doha's guidance sets out the route: the FCDO Legalisation Office in the UK, then the Embassy of the State of Qatar in London, then the Consular Affairs Department of Qatar's Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The British Embassy itself cannot legalise or attest documents.

One document, one certification, one apostille
The Qatari Embassy asks for each UK document to be certified on its own by an accredited solicitor and apostilled on its own by the FCDO before it reaches the embassy's legalisation department. Documents certified or apostilled as a bundle are refused, and every submission needs the embassy's printed covering letter. Documents can be sent by post with a prepaid recorded or special delivery return envelope, and fees are paid by postal order issued in the UK.

Degree certificates need a letter and a transcript
University and college certificates must come with a covering letter from the university or college confirming where you studied and sat your exams, your start and end dates, whether you studied full or part time and whether it was distance or on-site learning, plus an official transcript listing every module, mark and credit value. For a bachelor's degree the embassy also asks for a copy of your T4 student visa covering the course, or of your UK or EU passport.

Distance learning, with one exception
The embassy does not recognise certificates obtained through distance or online learning, even when they carry an FCDO apostille. The one exception it names is a postgraduate MSc or PhD degree.

Business papers, and the final step in Doha
Commercial documents, certificates of origin and invoices go through a chamber of commerce, in the UK the Arab British Chamber of Commerce, which submits them to the embassy. After the FCDO and embassy stamps, the Consular Affairs Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Doha attests the document. GOV.UK adds that British birth, marriage and death certificates used for family sponsorship in Qatar need the FCDO and Qatari Embassy stamps.
