Egyptian degree certificate for UK ENIC

What UK ENIC's official guidance requires when your degree was issued in Egypt, including the one thing most people do not know: you may not need a translation at all.

Every fact below links to its official source. Last checked 21 July 2026.

The short answer

ENIC lets you submit Egyptian documents in Arabic, free of charge. A certified translation is only one of your two routes.

Route 1 · No translation needed

Use ENIC's Translation Waiver

  • Arabic is one of ENIC's free waiver languages, so documents issued in Arabic can be submitted as they are
  • Upload clear colour photos of your final certificate and official transcripts, signed and dated by your university
  • Add proof of identity, and evidence of any name change
  • JPEG, PDF or bitmap, 5 MB per file, all four corners visible

Route 2 · Certified translation

Submit a certified English translation

  • ENIC accepts certified translations from professional translators
  • Useful when your documents mix Arabic with another language, or when you will also need the translation elsewhere
  • The certification must meet the UK government wording shown below

Where the waiver stops

The free Arabic waiver applies to UK ENIC only. If the same degree is going to an employer, a university admissions office or the Home Office, those organisations set their own rules and will normally expect a certified English translation.

Egypt is not a member of the Apostille Convention. ENIC's published document requirements do not ask for an apostille or legalisation, but where another organisation does require your Egyptian documents to be legalised, that runs through the embassy route. See our Egypt legalisation guide.

If you do need a certified translation

The UK government sets out exactly what the translator must confirm in writing on the translation:

  1. 1That it is a true and accurate translation of the original document
  2. 2The date of the translation
  3. 3The translator's full name and contact details
The translator confirms it is a true and accurate translation of the original document, and gives the date plus their full name and contact details. Wording from GOV.UK, Certifying a document.

Common questions

Does ENIC need my Egyptian degree apostilled or legalised?

ENIC's published document requirements ask for photographs of your certificates, transcripts and identity documents, plus certified translations where documents are not in English. An apostille or embassy legalisation is not on that list. Egypt is not in the Apostille Convention in any case, so where another organisation asks for legalisation, it runs through the embassy route instead.

Can I use a translator in Egypt who is sworn before an Egyptian court?

For ENIC, you may not need any translation because of the Arabic waiver. Where you do provide one, ENIC says it accepts certified translations from professional translators. Other UK organisations differ on this point, which is exactly why we built these pages per receiving organisation.

What does the ENIC Statement of Comparability cost?

£69.60 including the e-Statement, with paper copies extra, and a standard processing time of 15 working days once ENIC has your documents and payment. Figures from ENIC's own cost page, checked 21 July 2026.

Will my degree definitely be accepted?

No page can honestly promise that, and you should be cautious of any that does. What we can tell you is what the official guidance requires, with the source, so you can prepare your application exactly as ENIC asks. The decision is always ENIC's.
