The short answer
There is no apostille for a UAE document, and none of the UK organisations we checked asks for one. Your driving licence is the pleasant surprise: it is exchangeable.
The apostille question, answered
- The United Arab Emirates is not a contracting party to the Apostille Convention, so an apostille cannot be issued for a UAE document
- The UK's own Legalisation Office states: "You cannot get documents issued outside the UK legalised using this service - get them legalised in the country they were issued"
- None of the official guidance we checked for the organisations below asks for an apostille or legalisation of the incoming document

Your UAE driving licence: exchangeable, with one extra letter
The United Arab Emirates is one of the 23 designated countries and territories on DVLA's exchange list. The outcome page sets out the process:
- 1"Request a Licence Data Verification Letter (LDVL) from the UAE Ministry of Interior."
- 2"Send the LDVL, the form, the £43 fee and any documents you need (including your driving licence and proof of passing your test in a manual vehicle if needed) to the address on the form."
- 3"Your licence will usually arrive in 3 to 4 weeks."
"You can continue to drive in the UK without exchanging your licence for 12 months after becoming resident." "After 12 months you must exchange your licence to keep driving. You can exchange it up to 5 years after becoming resident, if it has not expired."
The outcome page mentions no translation requirement for a UAE licence.

The embassy will not translate it
A common assumption is that the British Embassy can translate or handle your paperwork. The official guidance says otherwise: "British embassies, high commissions and consulates cannot translate documents."
For certified copies, the same guidance says: "If you're abroad and need a certified copy of a document for a reason other than legalisation, you should find a local notary to do it." Common questions
Do I need an apostille on my UAE document for use in the UK?
An apostille cannot be issued for a UAE document, because the United Arab Emirates is not a contracting party to the Apostille Convention. None of the official guidance we checked for the organisations covered by these pages asks for one on incoming documents. If a particular organisation tells you it wants your document legalised, that is done in the UAE rather than by the UK, and you should confirm the exact requirement with the organisation itself.
Can I exchange my UAE driving licence for a UK one?
The United Arab Emirates is on DVLA's designated-country exchange list. The stated process is to request a Licence Data Verification Letter from the UAE Ministry of Interior, then send the letter, the form and the 43 pound fee to DVLA, with the licence usually arriving in 3 to 4 weeks. The outcome page mentions no translation requirement. The decision is always DVLA's.
Does my UAE degree need a certified English translation?
For UK ENIC you may not need one at all: the Translation Waiver Service is defined by language, and Arabic is one of ENIC's free waiver languages, for Statement of Comparability applications only.
